Some of the detrimental mistakes made by the memorizers or reciters of the Quran that lead to scattered hifdh or irregular commitment must be avoided at all costs.
First Mistake:
Taking a long break from memorization or even tilawah
Second Mistake:
Not revising the new and old hifdh because you haven’t planned or made time for it
Third Mistake:
Neglecting Quran in Nafal Salah
Fourth Mistake:
Thinking that memorizing is all about knowing the sounds of the letters and connecting the words, without the meaning+understanding+implementing.
The cost of all of these mistakes will be forgetting the Quran and either starting it all anew or giving up because you feel discouraged.
You must make time for revision every 7-10 days for all that you’ve memorized. Once you have memorized, you move on to the level of mastering the hifdh, which takes anywhere from 6 months up to a year. After that, you give Quran’s recitation a year or two where you recite it completely at least 100 times (yes, a 100) which will strengthen your hifdh and you won’t forget it, by the will of Allah.
Next post will discuss how to move from completing Quran the first time to completing it regularly, multiple times a year.
