What is it that you love? Would you give it away for the sake of Allah? Would you be willing to give it up in exchange for piety, righteousness?
The key word here isn’t piety or righteousness, it is love, anything and everything that has taken place in your heart – relationships, material possessions, the love of this life – are you able to put the pleasure of your Lord above it all?
(لَن تَنَالُوا الْبِرَّ حَتَّىٰ تُنفِقُوا مِمَّا تُحِبُّونَ ۚ وَمَا تُنفِقُوا مِن شَيْءٍ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ بِهِ عَلِيمٌ)
سورة آل عمران
By no means shall you attain to righteousness until you spend (benevolently) out of what you love; and whatever thing you spend, Allah surely knows it.
