If you want to be close to your Lord then just be humble, open your heart and pour it in your prayers to Him.
رَبَّنَا فَاغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا وَكَفِّرْ عَنَّا سَيِّئَاتِنَا وَتَوَفَّنَا مَعَ الْأَبْرَارِ
Rabbanā faghfir lanā dhunūbanā wa kaffir ‘annā sayyi’ātinā wa tawaffanā ma‘al-abrār.
“Our Lord! Forgive us our sins and efface our bad deeds and take our souls in the company of the righteous.”
Sūrah Āli-‘Imrān (3): 193.
